Survey Says ‘50% of Pastors Use Porn’

hands-on-keyboardAccording to a survey conducted by Pure Desire Ministries (quoted in an ad in Outreach magazine), 68% of Christian men and 50% of pastors view porn regularly. Other research from Covenant Eyes returns similar stats. But let’s face it, statistics don’t change lives. If you are a pastor who uses porn, please know that there is hope for you to overcome this struggle. But it won’t come through greater knowledge, more self-discipline, or stronger will power. Victory is possible only through complete and moment-by-moment surrender to God and genuine accountability to someone who can be trusted to consistently ask the hard questions. This kind of accountability is hard to come by but it’s vital for sustained freedom.

Most of us don’t trust anyone else with our secrets. Covenant Eyes reports that 75% of pastors have no one holding them accountable for their Internet use. How can we expect to overcome if we keep empowering the secrets in our lives? I don’t have any solid research, but my experience in support groups has provided plenty of anecdotal information that those who keep struggles hidden don’t get better. Their victories seem to be short lived. Sure, there are huge risks in disclosure, but the risks in letting a porn fascination become an addiction are deadly. Like any addiction, sexual addiction is progressive. Milder forms of porn viewed infrequently no longer produce the desired effect. The hardness of the porn accessed, as well as the frequency of use, almost always increase as the addiction progresses. For many, the fantasy world eventually spills over into reality and the resulting sexual immorality destroys a marriage, a family, a ministry, a church, and maybe even a community.

One of the purposes of this website is to encourage accountability and provide resources and support for those in ministry, those who are ready to get serious about dealing with pornography and other threats to sexual integrity.

We’re glad you’re here. Please don’t hesitate to take the next step and call us to discuss ways we can help you walk in victory.
